The Bura Hamasho station sits in Ethiopia's Sidama Zone at elevations between 1,950 and 2,100 meters, among the highest growing conditions in the country. Smallholder farmers from the surrounding communities handpick ripe cherries and deliver them to the station, where they are laid out on raised drying beds and sun-dried whole, skin, pulp, and all. It is Ethiopia's oldest processing tradition, and in the right hands, it produces some of the most memorable coffee in the world. This Grade 1 Organic lot is exactly that: an intensely fruit-forward, florally expressive cup that opens with fresh strawberry and watermelon, drifts into honeyed orange blossom, and finishes bright and clean. If you have never tried a natural-process Ethiopian coffee, this is the one to start with.
