Ethiopia Sidama Bura Hamasho
A Masterclass in Natural Processing.
In the world of specialty coffee, "Sidama Natural" is a phrase that carries weight. It is synonymous with fruit, complexity, and texture.
Sourced from the Bensa district of the Sidama Zone, this coffee is a solid representation of high-altitude African coffee. Grown at staggering elevations (reaching upwards of 2,200 meters), the coffee cherries mature slowly, developing a density and sugar content that makes the final cup explode with flavor.
We love this coffee because it balances intensity with elegance. It’s undeniably fruit-forward, but it possesses a structure and clarity that only the best producers in Ethiopia can achieve.
In The Cup
If you love fruit bombs, this is sure to please. The Natural (dry) process locks the sweetness into the bean, resulting in a vibrant, juicy profile.
-
The Headliner: The blueberry note here isn't just fresh—it’s Candied Blueberry. It is concentrated, sweet, and aromatic.
-
The Acidity: To cut through that sweetness, you get a beautiful layer of Peach. It provides a stone-fruit brightness that keeps the cup lively.
-
The Finish: The experience rounds out with a warm, comforting note of Brown Sugar, giving the coffee a syrupy body that lingers long after the sip.
The Origin: Bura Hamasho
This lot comes from the Bura Hamasho station in the Bensa woreda. This region is famous for its "garden coffee" production, where smallholder farmers grow coffee alongside other crops in a biodiverse, agroforestry system.
A Note on Sourcing: We are committed to transparency. The green coffee used in this lot was grown using 100% organic farming practices without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. While The Caffeinery is not a certified organic processing facility (and thus we cannot stamp the USDA seal on the bag), the beans inside are as pure as the mountain air they were grown in.
The Details
-
Roast Profile: Light-Medium. We developed this roast to highlight the natural fruit sugars without introducing roast bitterness.
-
Best Brewed: This coffee shines on a pour-over (V60/Chemex) where the floral and fruit notes can really open up.
Experience the sweet side of Sidama.
